10/10: Queenscliff Gallery Celebrates 10 Years

Proudly, as an exhibiting artist and Director of Queenscliff Gallery (QG), I am thrilled to announce the 10th anniversary of those two positions and to invite you to view my two most recent works and those of nine other artists who have been integral to the gallery’s journey since day one.

Reaching our 10th anniversary is a testament to the vibrant art culture we have built at QG. This celebration is not just about reflecting on our past but also about embracing the future with the same enthusiasm and dedication to art and our community.

The two works I painted for this exhibition, Eternal Bloom and The Unfading Flower, both signify the coming of age of life in Queenscliff. This decade of establishment is celebrated with the Magnolia bloom based on the tree we planted on our gallery/home premises a couple of years ago, which blossomed magnificently this year. I used to love walking to the top of Gertrude when I lived in Collingwood during August and September to see the incredible streak of purple and white all the way from Brunswick Street, and I dreamed of having my own tree one day. What a dream to have one in front of an 1868 Wesleyan Church!

As ever-present in my work, Byzantine iconography is also strongly referenced, with a self-portrait figurine sitting in central archways and among patterns that reflect the gallery architecture of the 1868 Wesleyan Church. Instead of the white lily of the pure Theotokos, I chose to include a colourful flower that, to me, more reflects modern-day faith.

Please join me and the following artists: David Frazer, Andrew Gunnell, Melinda Harper, Kate Hudson, Anita Iacovella, Jim Pavlidis, Trudy Rice, John Waller, and Deborah Williams in marking this occasion at Queenscliff Gallery.
