    In case you’ve been wondering where some new Itali In case you’ve been wondering where some new Italian artworks might be… it’s not because I didn’t go to Italy this year but I haven’t made work because i’ve had two fantastic design projects on; one of which is the Queenscliff Historical Museum’s upcoming 70s exhibition - I’m working with the fabulous Lesley Alway as I did with the existing exhibition there - you must visit if you haven’t! And the other design project is the redesign (complete redesign) of My Health Story. Reference for the 70s project comes from video 8 footage of my Glen Waverley home when I was a kid. It’s a fun reel. Sound up for some narration.

    Stay glued to our media; it’s going to get excitin Stay glued to our media; it’s going to get exciting when NINE’s Postcards airs its day trip to Queenscliff in November. The long-running TV show that travels around Victoria ‘in search of the very best that this state has to offer’ stopped en route around the town to learn more about QG, the artists represented, and the offering for visitors seeking a great day out and a new art acquisition. Lucky for us, the guest presenter for the TV show was Emma Watkins, ex-Yellow Wiggle, who was in town to kick off her tour at Geelong Performing Arts Centre with her new children’s entertainment venture ‘Emma Memma’. ‘Emma Memma’ features Emma and Deaf dancer and artist Elvin Lam (Elvin Melvin), highlighting visual language for preschoolers and their family network to give them the skills to communicate through sign and gesture.

    The current Queenscliff Gallery theme is figuring The current Queenscliff Gallery theme is figuring in the landscape and here is the figure - me, and the landscape - Cortona with elements of the place I see including the little lamp posts and window frame details… and… a suitcase but this suitcase is not mine. This suitcase, I believe, is my parents’ suitcase when they migrated to Australia. So, come on in to QG. There are many beautiful artworks to see on the theme of figuring the landscape. And, if you can’t acquire an artwork… well buy some wrapping paper!!! Ciao ciao!

I’m sure many of my kindred spirits would relate. After all we never make work for the gallery. We always make it for ourselves first and foremost. It’s the only way it can be good enough to live with someone else - often a stranger! So please buy my work… no wait don’t! Oh ok, do.. but not that one! 😂

    Questions questions always pondering my position a Questions questions always pondering my position and motivations - why do I love so many mediums? Why not reign myself in?     As an artist and gallery director, COVID taught me As an artist and gallery director, COVID taught me one thing (ok it taught me a few things) but it’s that you make the most of slumps by continuing to work. Slumps pass. Slumps are transitions. And, am I not an exhibiting artist? We’re in a retail transformation. It’s the best time to keep working in any way you can. It can get hard as artists are often inspired by their environment. So I take it one step at a time. I start. I start doing anything. Even if it’s standing in my studio pushing materials around. Or drawing… or relooking at my work. Yesterday, I completed some Italian editions and proofed a new one - Verona door! They’re works that sell well so I’ll need them. And it was an invigorating day for us both. #lifeofanartist
